Mines is a 5x5 grid with a number of hidden bombs you choose yourself. Every safe tile you reveal pushes your multiplier up, and you can bank your OSRS GP at any point. More bombs means a steeper climb and a shorter expected run - the whole risk curve is yours to set before the first click.
The multiplier after each safe pick is the exact inverse of the odds of having got that far, with a flat 1% taken off the top: the chance of surviving k picks on a board with m mines is a straightforward hypergeometric, and the payout is 0.99 divided by it. That's why a 24-mine board pays enormously for a single tile and why a 1-mine board takes twenty-odd picks to be worth anything - it isn't a designed paytable, it's arithmetic.
The bomb layout is committed before you touch the board, so the game cannot move a mine under a tile you were about to click. Rotating your seed reveals the server seed and lets you regenerate every board it produced.
Mines is the game most players use to build a manual risk ladder, because it is one of very few where you set the volatility yourself without changing the house edge at all. Three mines and five mines have exactly the same 99% RTP.
A flat 1%, the same on every mine count from 1 to 24. It is applied once to the multiplier formula, so choosing more mines increases your volatility without increasing the edge against you.
Whichever volatility you want - the expected value is identical. Low mine counts give long, slow, frequent small wins; high counts give rare large ones.
Yes, and that's the point. Every round is generated from a server seed that is hashed and shown to you before you bet, combined with a client seed you control and an incrementing nonce. When you rotate your seed the old server seed is revealed, so you can replay every round it produced and confirm nothing changed after the fact.
Stakes are in Old School RuneScape gold (or RS3 GP), traded in game with a real host - not a token you can't cash back out.
