The switches, the rotations and what Zulrah is really worth an hour, with live prices on every item in the setup.
A gear switching test wearing a snake costume. The fight itself is not mechanically hard once you know the rotations, and the damage is entirely avoidable. What makes Zulrah difficult is that you are changing your whole equipment set several times a kill while moving to the right tile, and doing it under time pressure.
With maximum stats and gear, upwards of 35 kills an hour is achievable, which works out at roughly 4,435,353 coins an hour before supply costs. That figure is why people put up with learning it.
There are four rotations and they are fixed. Learning to recognise which one you are in from the first two phases is the entire skill curve, and it is worth watching a rotation guide with the tile markers on rather than trying to work them out live.
Prices for the switchable items are in the table on this page and update daily, which matters here more than at most bosses because a full Zulrah setup is several separate expensive purchases rather than one.
Inventory is saradomin brews, super restores, an anti-venom+, and a ranging potion. The anti-venom is not optional: Zulrah envenoms and venom will kill you through food if you let it tick.

The blowpipe and trident are the two items that matter. Everything else is a comfort upgrade and Zulrah is very doable without any of it.
Zulrah's scales are the backbone of the income and they are the reason the gold per hour figure holds up between uniques. They are also what your own blowpipe consumes, so a Zulrah grind is partly self-funding.
The uniques are the three serpentine pieces: the tanzanite fang, the magic fang and the serpentine visage. The fang builds into the blowpipe, which is what most people are there for on their first hundred kills. Onyx drops sit alongside them as the other high-value outcome.

Around 4,435,353 coins an hour before supplies at upwards of 35 kills an hour with maximum stats and gear. Most players sit well below that while learning, because kills per hour is almost entirely a function of how well you know the rotations.
A toxic blowpipe and a trident are the two items that genuinely matter. Everything else, including Armadyl and Ancestral, is comfort. Zulrah is very beatable in mid-tier gear if you know the rotations, and unbeatable in best-in-slot if you do not.
Yes. Zulrah envenoms you and venom will kill through food if it is allowed to keep ticking. An anti-venom+ is a required inventory slot rather than an optional one.
Four, and they are fixed. Recognising which one you are in from the first two phases is the whole skill curve of the fight, and it is far easier to learn with tile markers than by reading about it.
