The four phases, the gear that makes them quick, and the real drop rates on the claw, the leather and the ring pieces.
Alchemical Hydra requires 95 Slayer and it can only be killed on a hydra task, which together make it one of the most gated bosses in the game. That gate is also why it stayed profitable for as long as it has: the supply of people able to farm it is limited by a grind rather than by gear.
It is worth being honest that getting to 95 Slayer is a far larger project than learning the fight. If you are reading this below 90 Slayer, the useful guide for you is the Slayer one, not this page.
The hydra cycles through green, blue, red and jade, and each phase changes what it does and what you should be praying. The fight is a sequence of pattern recognitions rather than a damage race, and almost everything that kills people is failing to switch prayer on the phase transition.
The chemical vents on the floor are the mechanic people underestimate. Standing in the wrong one during the wrong phase does significant damage, and the safe tiles move as the fight progresses.
The red phase is where most deaths happen. It fires a flame wall that has to be walked out of rather than tanked, and it will not stop because you are mid-attack.
Ranged is the standard answer and the blowpipe is the item that matters. The rest of the setup is comfort, and because you can only be here on a hydra task at 95 Slayer, you will almost certainly own most of it already by the time you can come.
Bring anti-venom rather than antipoison, and expect to spend more on supplies than at Vorkath or Cerberus. The fight is long and the chip damage across four phases adds up in a way a single-phase boss does not.

A slayer helmet is effectively mandatory given you can only be here on task anyway. The dragon hunter lance is the melee alternative and is quicker in the hands of someone confident with the phase timings.

The three ring pieces are the common uniques at 1 in 181.1 each, and they combine into the brimstone ring. The hydra tail at 1 in 513 and the hydra leather at 1 in 514 are effectively the same rate as each other, which surprises people who assume the leather is much rarer because it is worth so much more.
The hydra's claw at 1 in 1,001 is the headline and the reason most people are here beyond the task itself.

95 Slayer, and you can only kill it while on a hydra task. That double gate is the main reason it has stayed profitable: the number of accounts able to farm it is limited by a long grind rather than by gear.
1 in 1,001. The hydra leather is 1 in 514 and the hydra tail 1 in 513, which are effectively the same rate as each other despite the leather being worth far more. The three ring pieces are 1 in 181.1 each.
A slayer helmet, a toxic blowpipe and Armadyl with pegasian boots is the standard ranged setup. A dragon hunter lance is the melee alternative and is faster for players confident with the phase timings.
Missing a prayer switch on a phase transition, and the red phase flame wall, which has to be walked out of rather than tanked. The chemical vents on the floor are the other thing people underestimate, because the safe tiles move as the fight goes on.
