The fastest Woodcutting methods at every level, what a crystal felling axe is actually worth in experience per hour, and why the profitable trees are the slow ones.
2-tick teak is the fastest Woodcutting in the game. With a crystal felling axe the ceiling is around 255,000 experience an hour at 99, and because the method is difficult and click-intensive the realistic long-term rate is closer to 230,000 to 240,000. It scales hard with level: roughly 93,000 an hour at 35, 126,000 at 50, 194,000 at 71 and 235,000 at 99.
If you do not want to tick manipulate, bloodwood trees from 77 are the fastest thing available, at around 130,000 to 210,000 an hour cutting three at a time with a dragon felling axe, and above 210,000 with a crystal felling axe. That is a genuinely high rate for a method that only asks you to pay attention.
Teak without tick manipulation is worth cutting only to about 65, after which sulliusceps are faster.
Every current training method in the skill and the level each one opens at, so you can find the row for the level you are on rather than reading a whole guide to get to it. This table is generated from the game's current method list and regenerated when it changes, which is why it includes methods most guides have not caught up with yet.
| Level | Method |
|---|---|
| 1 to 15 | Regular trees |
| 15 to 35 | Oak trees |
| 35+ | Teak trees |
| 62 to 90 | Blisterwood tree |
| 65+ | Sulliuscep |
| 77+ | Bloodwood trees |
| 80+ | Ironwood trees |
| 88+ | Redwood trees |
| 92+ | Rosewood trees |
9 methods. Level 1 to 99 is 13,034,431 experience.
More than most people assume, and it is the clearest upgrade path in the skill. On the same trees, moving up the axe tiers moves the rate by tens of thousands of experience an hour, and the crystal felling axe is the difference between a good rate and the best one available.
Forestry is the other modifier worth knowing. Equipping a forestry kit and doing the events that spawn adds roughly 20,000 experience an hour. On yews at 99 that takes you from the mid seventies into the 80,000 to 90,000 range, which turns a method nobody would otherwise recommend into a reasonable one.
Teak logs
Yew logs
Magic logs
Redwood logs
Dragon axeRedwoods from 88 are the AFK answer, at around 55,000 to 60,000 experience an hour at level 90 with an infernal or dragon axe, rising to about 65,000 at 99 and 70,000 to 75,000 with a crystal axe. Redwoods in the Farming Guild can also be cut with a 1.5 tick method for up to 180,000 an hour with a crystal axe, which is a very different proposition from the same trees cut normally.
Woodcutting is a poor money maker and it is worth being blunt about that. The profit from it is low compared to almost any other method in the game, and the trees that pay best give the slowest experience. The blisterwood tree from 62 is the exception worth naming: upwards of 70,000 experience an hour, and the sap makes it more profitable than sulliuscep or the alternatives.
2-tick teak, at up to 255,000 experience an hour at 99 with a crystal felling axe, though 230,000 to 240,000 is the realistic long-term rate because the method is demanding. Without tick manipulation, bloodwood trees from 77 are fastest at over 210,000 an hour with a crystal felling axe.
13,034,431 experience. At 235,000 an hour that is around 55 hours, which makes it one of the faster 99s in the game. At redwood rates of roughly 65,000 it is closer to 200.
Not for experience, and barely for money. Woodcutting profit is low across the board and magic logs are slow. If you want gold from this skill the blisterwood tree from 62 is a better answer, because the sap is worth more than the logs.
Yes, by roughly 20,000 experience an hour when you do the events that spawn. That is enough to move yews at 99 from the mid seventies to the 80,000 to 90,000 range.
